Yukon University Assessments

The Yukon University Assessments measure a student’s abilities in mathematics and English, and help Academic Advisors place students in the appropriate courses. The assessments are administered by the Yukon University Testing Centre which is in room A2305.

ACCUPLACER Next-Generation Reading and Writing

ACCUPLACER Next-Generation Reading assesses the test-taker's ability to derive meaning and to determine the meaning of words in various contexts.

ACCUPLACER Next-Generation Writing evaluates the test-taker's ability to revise and edit multi-paragraph texts.


What can I expect during the Next-Generation ACCUPLACER assessments?

  • Next-Generation ACCUPLACER assessments use a multiple choice format.
  • These assessments are done on a computer.
  • There is no time limit for these assessments; most people take two to three hours to complete an assessment.
  • There is a $25 fee for this assessment for international students. There is no fee for domestic and Canadian students.
  • For the assessment session, you must bring photo ID.

When will I get the results?

You will receive your results within a week (often sooner) of completing the Next-Generation ACCUPLACER assessments. Results will also be forwarded to the Admissions Office and entered into your student file. 

Your ACCUPLACER scores are valid for two years.

Please note that for English and Math assessments you need to wait 6 months after last ACCUPLACER assessment or completion of English and Math courses before retaking the assessment.

WritePlacer® Assessment

The WritePlacer® Assessment measures your ability to write effectively. 


What can I expect during the Writeplacer® assessment?

You will be given an introduction to an important issue. You will then write an essay (minimum 500 words) expressing your point of view on that issue, supporting your opinion with reasons and examples. The score will be based on your focus, organization, development and support, sentence structure and mechanical conventions.

  • This assessment is done on a computer.
  • There is a 90 minute time limit for this assessment.
  • There is a $25 fee for this assessment for international students. There is no fee for domestic and Canadian students.
  • For the assessment session, you must bring photo ID.

Math Assessment

The Yukon University mathematics assessment has two parts. The first part consists of 30 questions on basic math skills (whole numbers, fractions, decimals, percent, ratio and proportions, and word problems). The second part, also 30 questions, tests knowledge of introductory and intermediate algebra skills.


What can I expect during the mathematics assessment?

  • The Yukon University mathematics assessment uses a multiple-choice format.
  • There is a $25 fee for this assessment for international students. There is no fee for domestic and Canadian students.
  • The time limit for this assessment is 2 hours. Students must work quickly and accurately.
  • A calculator and scrap paper are provided.
  • For the assessment session, you must bring photo ID.

International Zoom Invigilation Fee

Please note that there is an additional $75 fee per assessment for international Zoom invigilation.


Cancellation Fee

Please note that there is a $50 fee for any cancellation less than 24 hours before the scheduled assessment start time for international students.

This fee also applies to ‘no-shows’ for international students..

External Exams

The Testing Centre offers external invigilation services for external institutions and agencies. The invigilation fee of exams up to 3 hours is $75.00, any extra additional hour is $25. For further information, please contact testing@yukonu.ca.

CELPIP

Yukon University facilitates CELPIP- General English tests for Prometric. The CELPIP- General tests are Canada’s leading general English tests for immigration, citizenship and professional designation. For any inquiries about general information, bookings and payment, go to www.celpip.ca.


GED and SAT exams are no longer offered at Yukon University.
