International student, to researcher, to lab technician

Inderjeet

Inderjeet Kaur began her studies as an international student at YukonU and is now teaching Introduction to Chemistry and running the YukonU Research Centre lab!

Inderjeet moved from India to the Yukon to study science and get involved in research. While completing a Northern Science diploma at YukonU, she worked as a student research assistant for two research programs - giving her the tools she needed to make her research goals reality.

Inderjeet worked with Northern Energy Innovation’s Beat the Peak campaign and did lab analysis for Northern Mine Remediation (NMR). She learned about Yukon’s electrical system and mine water treatment methods and participated in workshops and educational presentations with community schools. These programs helped her develop the public engagement skills and confidence she needed to become a sessional instructor in the University Access Pathways program. When a laboratory technician position opened, Inderjeet was able to apply all of her YukonU experiences to successfully compete for this position with NMR.

In addition to day-to-day lab operations, Inderjeet will expand upon the YukonU Research Centre laboratory’s research and analytical capacity.
