Northern Energy Innovation performed a set of power system energization studies for the Fort Providence and Dory Point power system. The primary concern the study addressed was the capability of the Fort Providence thermal plant generator(s) to energize the system given the significant shunt capacitance of the line between the Fort Providence thermal plant and the Kakisa substation.
This study found reasonable agreement on reactive loading of the generator(s) between both the power flow analysis and electromagnetic transient simulations and acceptable system voltage profiles from the power flow analysis.
