Researchers consolidated and identified gaps in existing knowledge, understanding and awareness of climate change impacts on permafrost and snow. Research was conducted through a comprehensive literature review and interviews with practitioners from both the mining and transportation sectors. The project team engaged with professionals in these sectors to understand their highest priority knowledge requirements with respect to climate change impacts on snow and permafrost.
Project deliverables included targeted information products tailored to the mining and ground-based transportation sectors. These products were created to address gaps identified by practitioners. The project also produced recommendations on additional courses of action that may be required in order to meet the needs of these sectors.
This project aimed to support decision makers in integrating climate change considerations into mining and transportation projects and planning as part of the Climate Change Information and Mainstreaming Program (CCIMP). This projected was funded by Natural Resources Canada under the title "Enhancing knowledge transfer to decision-makers with respect to climate change impacts on the cryosphere".
