JUST 033 - Residential Schools Awareness
Residential School Awareness is intended primarily for frontline workers in any field who want to build their awareness and understanding of Indian Residential School, with respect to Yukon. The session opens with a brief overview of residential school in the Yukon context. Residential school survivors and intergenerational survivors then share their experiences, the impact of those experiences and equally important, the turning point in their life, and their healing journey. During the session there will also be some time for dialogue. The program's purpose is to encourage First Nation and non-First Nation people in moving forward together with an attitude of hope.
This program was originally developed with the NISJ by CYFN Resolution Health Support Workers, the Committee on Abuse in Residential Schools (CAIRS), and the Liard First Nation Resolution Health Support Worker. It is available in different formats, including this half-day format. This is not a training program; the focus is on providing an opportunity to build awareness.
