ASIS 002 - Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training
This 2-day interactive workshop teaches participants to recognize when someone may have thoughts of suicide and work with them to create a plan that will support their immediate safety. Professionals, volunteers and informal helpers all need to know how to help people with thoughts of suicide in ways that increase their suicide safety. Although ASIST is widely used by healthcare providers, participants don't need any formal training to attend the workshop—anyone 16 or older can learn and use the ASIST model. The workshop features a scientifically proven intervention model, powerful audiovisual learning aids, group discussions, skills practice and development, and a balance of challenge and safety.
During the workshop, participants learn to:
• Identify people who have thoughts of suicide
• Understand how your beliefs and attitudes can affect suicide interventions
• Seek a shared understanding of the reasons for thoughts of suicide and the reasons for living
• Review current risk and develop a plan to increase safety from suicidal behavior for an agreed amount of time
• Follow up on all safety commitments, accessing further help as needed.
Participation in the full two days is required. Enjoy group discussions and practice skills that are based upon adult learning principles. Experience powerful videos on suicide intervention. Feel challenged and safe. Learn suicide first aid.
