Yukon College welcomes Dr. Maggie Matear as vice president University Services
WHITEHORSE—Dr. Maggie Matear has joined Yukon College as vice president University Services.
Dr. Matear was most recently director of Community Economic Development with the Timmins Economic Development Corporation, and has been an adjunct professor at Athabasca University, Algoma University and Queens University.
"Dr. Matear brings academic, community economic development and policy experience to her new role, all of which we expect will serve the institution and broader territory well, as we transition to Yukon University,” said Dr. Karen Barnes, president and vice-chancellor of Yukon College.
“This is an exciting time to be joining Yukon College,” said Dr. Matear. “It has developed an excellent reputation for meeting the needs of Yukoners through programming, innovation and community partnerships. I intend to support the team to continue building on that great foundation.”
Dr. Matear is familiar with the Yukon, having first camped throughout the territory in 2003; she has returned regularly with family and friends to hike and paddle in Yukon and N.W.T. ever since.
Research papers co-authored by Dr. Matear have been published in the Journal of Business Research, Journal of Consumer Research, Academy of Management and the Social Responsibility Journal.
Dr. Matear holds a Doctorate in Management from Queens University, Ontario, a Master of Business Administration from Dalhousie University, Nova Scotia, a Bachelor of Education from Western University, Ontario, and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Waterloo, Ontario.
The vice president University Services oversees the divisions of Administrative Services and Communities, Innovation and Development, as well as the departments of Student and Infrastructure Support, and Employee Relations and Organizational Development.
