Future Routes Festival returns Fri. Sept. 12

WHITEHORSE-Bringing Youth Towards Equality (BYTE), Yukon College and Yukon College Student Union are once again joining forces to present a second Future Routes Festival, Friday September 12th at the Yukon College Gym.

The concert will be headlined by Vancouver's famed electronic duo, The Funk Hunters, who have been making waves at music festivals across North America for their groundbreaking combination of heavy electronic beats and classic funk and soul lines. With Sarah MacDougall, Major Funk and the Employment, Dead Simple, Zipline, and Claire Ness and the Wisecrackers, rounding out the entertainment, the all-ages event promises to be a danceable, funk-filled night of music.

“We are excited to be bringing the Funk Hunters to Yukon for the first time,” said Kara Johancsik, BYTE communications coordinator. “BYTE is pleased to be part of creating this memorable end-of-summer celebration for both students and the wider community.”

Doors will open at 4:00 p.m. The music kicks off at 5:00 p.m. The event begins with a community market featuring local vendors selling arts, crafts, and jewelry. Outside, Whitehorse food trucks will provide much-needed healthy sustenance; inside there will be a beer garden for those 19 and older. Tickets are $10.00 per person at the door; however the event is free to Yukon College students.

“In order to make the event as accessible as possible, we have worked hard this year to ensure college students have free entry, alongside reducing the ticket price for community members, and working with the City of Whitehorse to provide free transit until 10pm,” said Matt Landry, Yukon College Student Union president.

The 2014 Future Routes Festival is made possible with the generous support of Air North, Westmark Whitehorse, City of Whitehorse, Yukon Brewing, Dominos Pizza, Starbucks, Tim Hortons, Total North, Boardstiff, Daniel Shier Law, Yukon Chamber of Mines, Nah Ho Productions, and Advanced Construction.
