School Principals Learn About University Transfer Options

Whitehorse – On Tuesday, May 4th high school principals, superintendents and high school counselors will be treated to lunch and a guest speaker at the Yukon College dining room. Dr. Frank Gelin, Executive Director and Council Co-Chair, BC Council on Admissions and Transfer (BCCAT) will speak about the transferability of Yukon College courses and programs to BC and Alberta colleges and universities.

This is Dr. Gelin’s second trip to the Yukon in as many years. On his last visit he spoke with college staff covering details on current transfer agreements, counseling students on transfers, and using the BCCAT websites, and with faculty on applying for additional transfer agreements.

“It’s important that we continue to spread the word about the transferability of Yukon College courses and programs,” said Karen Barnes, VP Education and Training. “Dr. Gelin has assisted significantly in this regard. He’s able to inform and educate not only the general public, but our staff and faculty as well.”

“BC/Yukon’s university transfer system is now the model for other provinces across the country. The system provides incredible opportunities for students to attend more than one institution, start at a college with its small class sizes and end in a university, and to save money on tuition,” said Frank Gelin. “Why wouldn’t students want to take advantage of this option?”
