YNTEP/BEAD student course presentation: Collaborative Gwich’in Land-Based Programs

Come share in stories and reflections from our 3rd and 4th year YNTEP/BEAD teacher education students in NOST 229 who travelled the Dagoo Taii traditional trail between Old Crow, Yukon, and Fort McPherson, Northwest Territories as part of Chief Zzeh Gittlit School and the First Nation School Board’s high school program. With Vuntut Gwich’in co-teachers and instructor Frances Ross-Furlong, students learned to collaboratively plan and co-teach land programs along a traditional trail, working towards education and sovereignty goals of Yukon First Nations. Students focused on relationship building, Indigenous leadership and remote travel, collaborative risk assessment and mitigation planning, goal setting and student assessment.
