Position Overview:
Yukon University is seeking a dedicated professional to provide operational support for all database systems associated with Banner. Reporting to the Director, IT and CIO, this position is responsible for enabling optimal operation and utilization of the University’s Ellucian Banner and Oracle environments and contributing to achievement of Unit goals and objectives as a member of the Information Services Team. Key responsibilities include leading database administration for the University's Banner ERP, Oracle database, and related systems. This includes capacity planning, security, installations, upgrades, performance tuning, and backup management. The role also provides technical programming expertise (UNIX, PL/SQL), troubleshooting system issues, maintaining scripts, and ensuring software stability. Additionally, this role serves as a technical resource for IT staff and end users.
Essential Qualifications:
• Proven experience as a Database Administrator or enterprise Systems Programmer, preferably in a university or higher education environment.
• Expertise in managing, optimizing, and providing operational support for database systems to ensure high availability, performance, and security, preferably with Oracle Databases.
• Proficiency in Linux administration and scripting for database administration tasks.
• Strong knowledge of database management principles, backup and recovery strategies, and disaster recovery planning.
• Experience with database security principles and implementation.
• Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to identify and resolve complex technical issues.
• Understand the objectives of a system and design accordingly.
