We are seeking to recruit an Institutional Research Analyst to help uphold our commitment to public accountability though the provision of reports, data and key performance metrics that track advancement of our Strategic Plan, Becoming.

 

About Institutional Research

A unit of Institutional Research functions to gather, analyze and provide data and reports to support evidence-based planning and decision-making.  As a vital resource for the institution, Institutional Research will provide business intelligence, develops key performance metrics and provides the analytics, reports and system level comparisons that will support Yukon University to measure and uphold accountabilities at the territorial level and across the national post-secondary sector.

Institutional Research assists in the maintenance of clean and usable data that will advance the aspirations articulated within our key planning documents, and is responsible for the quality of data shared with Yukon Governments

About the Role:

This position requires an excellent understanding of most university areas, including business and academic functions. You have the ability to communicate and form trusting relationships with university and external colleagues. Also, you possess the skills and abilities to scan the environment for information and techniques to improve processes and ensure data and reports are relevant to specific audiences.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the collection, modelling, analysis, interpretation, reporting and dissemination of information that will allow key stakeholder groups to predict, monitor and evaluate performance on key institutional initiatives in alignment with Yukon University’s Strategic Plan and its affiliated planning documents, including the Reconciliation Framework and the EDI Action Plan.

  • Build a comprehensive and ongoing culture of institutional data collection, analysis, management and dissemination in support of planning and decision-making at all levels of university operations, particularly those related to public accountability, budget and finance, external rankings, and institutional effectiveness. 

  • Coordinate/prepare planning and resource materials for governance and decision making groups of the university, including but not limited to the Board of Governors, President Executive Committee and Senior Executive Committee, as well as external stakeholder groups including Yukon First Nation, Territorial, and Federal governments.

  • Provide data and information and official statistics for both internal and external reporting in a manner that is appropriate to the audience and circumstances at hand, including the development of reports and presentations to ensure transparency and public accountability. Specifically, the Yukon University Annual Report, Accountability Framework, Strategic Plan Performance reports and annual reports on university budget.

  • Oversee federal accountability reporting including Statistics Canada data submissions and ensures that timelines are met.

  • Oversee institutional participation in territorial, national, and international research benchmarking initiatives.

  • Collaborate with other divisional leaders including Marketing & Communications, Information Technology, the Office of the Registrar and with internal clients to ensure that business intelligence products and related processes and systems are optimized to foster data quality, data integrity, and delivery of effective reporting and data/information solutions.
     
  • Provide support and leadership (as appropriate) to annual budget planning and reporting activities

  • Lead development of institutional policies that align with and uphold the operations of the unit.

  • Develop data quality standards and process and ensure the standards are met. 

  • Maintain currency in best practices regarding research in higher education and in the field of Institutional Research and Planning.

  • Represent YukonU on territorial national, and international committees and initiatives.

Education and experience:

  • Master’s degree in related field (Information Systems, Business Intelligence, Business Analytics) or Master’s degree with demonstrated experience in working with data for status indicators and assessment, planning and decision-making.
  • Experience with multiple data indicators, sources and platforms (including Power BI) for business intelligence reporting and data visualization
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and synthesize complex data sets and communicate critical information to the appropriate stakeholders
  • Experience working in a corporate or institutional research office (or similar function) is preferred, with progressively increasing responsibility and experience in research and planning.
  • Experience working in a post-secondary institution is preferred.

The Institutional Research Analyst reports directly to the President and Vice-Chancellor. The position is located at the Ayamdigut Campus in Whitehorse and is a full-time on-site position.
