NSCI 201 - Research Skills and Proposal Writing
This course designed for students who wish to pursue an experiential approach to learning more
about the research process. Working with a research supervisor, students will develop a research
plan. First they will refine a research question or hypothesis, then they will conduct a literature
survey. Next they will investigate appropriate methodologies and prepare a budget and timeline for
data collection. The culmination of the course will be a research proposal that could be used to seek funding or permits. Topics may cover any field relevant to northern science or innovation.
Students interested in pursuing the actual field work or analysis component of a research project are directed to the companion course NSCI 202.
